I Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You: Here I Go Again

Here I go again. I am sure by now you may be tired of what seems like weekly posts about Taylor Kinney or Severide. I can’t help it, but I am going to be slowing things down soon. I watched Chicago Fire last night and I was inspired to write a blog. It seems that the show even though it is a repeat gets me inspired.

Let me say this again. I know that this is just a show. I know that this is just a work of fiction. I know that the characters are fictional. However, I love the show and I have fallen in love with the character Severide. I have written several posts about how I feel about Severide.

Check out my posts: In My Opinion: Severide, Stellaride Is Coming To An End, Severide Deserves Better, Taylor Kinney, Girl On Fire: My Wednesday Night Obsession, Sad Wednesdays: No More Severide Till Fall, Taylor Kinney: A Poem Reposted, and You Are The Reason.

From the moment I started watching Chicago Fire, I fell in love with Severide. His eyes and his smile just drew me in. There was something about him. He just has a way with the ladies. He and Casey are the best of friends. That is good because they give each other the best advice. Severide is a great leader at the firehouse.

If you know me you know that I am not a fan of Severide and Stella. They just do not work at all. I think after last night’s episode that she is using him to get her way to the top. She sees him as someone that has been groomed to be a leader and she is only with him to get to the top. She admitted that when she was at the academy that there were not many women in her class.

She goes off to a training class in the next episode and feels out of place. Mostly because it was for people in positions of leadership which she is not. She wants to be a leader until she goes to this training. Then she feels that she is being pushed into leadership too fast.

Stella later tries to push Severide into marriage. Severide is best man for Joe and Stella tries to tell Severide how to do the job. She hints around to Severide about marriage, but he does not seem to take the hint. I honestly don’t think that Severide is ready to get married anytime soon.

If you look at their history you will see that they are just not meant to be. It all started with when they met. They met at the Academy when they were taking a class together. Stella led Severide on. She never told him that she was married. Severide wanted to hang out with her one night so he went to her house. Stella’s husband Grant was not happy about that. Stella later tells Severide that he should have asked her if she was married. She was covering for the fact that she messed up.

Severide enjoys helping people. He is invested in his job. He is a great team leader. They guys on Squad look up to him. He is a great problem solver and a good investigator. He is just great at what he does.

Taylor Kinney is a great guy. He is devoted to his community. Recently he helped serve delivery meals back home in Pennsylvania. He is devoted to his family. He is close to his Mom and Brothers. He is also a devoted friend. He likes to keep his life private. He is devoted to the ladies that he falls in love with.

One thing that Severide and Taylor have in common is that they are both gorgeous. Not just on the outside, but on the inside too. That is one thing that I love about them.

I could go on and on. However, I am going to stop for now. Season 9 can’t come soon enough.

Zinnia: The Renewal of Life

Spring has come ad warm temperatures are here. It is time to get out of the house and spend time outside. With the warm temperatures comes the blooming of flowers and animals are being born. The cycle of life is in full swing. I love this time of year.

I can remember as a kid growing up on the farm this being the best time of the year. Baby animals were being born on the farm. When I was little we had sheep on the farm, but we got rid of them. We had cattle all of my life. I loved it when the calves were born. Sometimes the birth of animals was not so great.

Sometimes babies had to be pulled. I remember watching my Grandpa pull a calf out of a cow. It was the first time I saw that happen and I thought that was something I could never do. My Grandpa explained that that was a necessary part of life. We had to help the mother have the baby. If not the baby could die. Sometimes the babies were already dead. Mothers could not push the baby out without assistance. If we did not get the dead baby out in time it would rot inside the mother and make her sick.

Another thing that happened on the farm was planting. Farmers plant corn during this time of year. Often times people would plant gardens for their families. I remember helping Mom, Grandpa, and Aunt Virginia and Uncle Ed in their gardens. They planted big gardens with some interesting things in them.

Green Beans, Corn, Potatoes, Cabbage, Lettuce, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Squash, Peppers, and Beets were some of the common things that were grown. I also remember rhubarb and dill. I remember helping to can, freeze, and preserve the fruits of our labor. We made jams, jellies, sauces, soup, pie filling, and more that would get us through the winter.

It was a treat to have Grandma make her homemade lettuce dressing or her special coleslaw dressing. Fresh pie and pickles were also something that I looked forward to at Aunt Virginia’s house. Mama made the best fresh green beans with ham in the summer. I better not forget Grandpa’s corn on the cob that was so good. We also had treats of watermelon and cantelope which Grandpa was great at picking the best tasting ones.

Flowers were in bloom as well. Aunt Virginia had the most beautiful flowers. I always admired them. My Grandma Webster had the best smelling lilacs around. My Grandpa Rittenour had a beautiful Rose of Sharon Bush in his yard. I love to watch the flowers bloom.

The cycle of life at this time of year reminds me that God is always with us. He makes everything beautiful. I just love this time of year.

Thank you God for all your beauty.

You Are The Reason

If you know me you know that for some time now my favorite tv show is Chicago Fire. You will also know that I am a big fan of the character Severide. I have been following his character. I also love the actor that plays Severide, Taylor Kinney. There is just something about him. Much like Severide I fell in love with his eyes and smile at first sight.

I have written several blog posts about Severide. Some include my feelings about Severide’s relationship with Stella Kidd. I am not a fan of her and I feel that she and Severide are not made for each other.

Taylor is a great guy. He has a sexy smile and sexy eyes. He deserves to be happy and settle down with the right woman. His character Severide is the same. He is a great guy with a sexy smile, sexy eyes, and deserves to be happy with the right woman.

When I started watching Chicago Fire it was all because I wanted to see Jesse Spencer. I had watched him on House. I just loved Jesse’s accent since he is from Australia. Then when I was watching the show Severide caught my eye. That tall drink of water with the sexiest smile and eyes stole my heart. After that, I wanted to learn more about him.

So I did some research to find out all that I could about Severdide. I got to know Severide’s story. It made me understand the person that he was. Yes, I understand that he is a character on a show. However, I still wanted to know his back story. I wanted to know the story behind the eyes.

I think the more you know about a character on a show the better able you are to know just what makes them who they are. Everyone has a story wither on tv or in real life. So then I started to look into Taylor Kinney’s story. I wanted to know the story behind the handsome man. Get to know him from the inside out.

All Celebrates have a story. They are all human just like you and me. Sometimes we hold them on too high a pedestal. We need to treat them like they are one of us, everyday normal people. Often times they want to be treated like normal people and live normal lives. They often want to keep their lives private and we need to respect that. I know after reading about Taylor that he is one of these such people. So if you love a celebrity or a character on a show as much as I do you need to respect them.

Taylor is the whole reason that I watch Chicago Fire. I love his character Severide. I hate that Season 8 was cut short. I hope that they will make up for this in Season 9. Season 9 can’t come fast enough for me.

Till Season 9….I will watch old episodes of Chicago Fire.

Church Opening Back-Up: Just What Will That Mean

Gov. Jim Justice outlined Monday his process of how he will open back up West Virginia. As part of the process, it will be to open up churches with a limited number of people that can attend. The thought of opening churches up in the next few weeks is great. However, the restrictions that come with that opening may be more than what some churches can handle.

Some churches will have to continue to stay closed because of the number of restrictions. They may have to continue having drive-in services or online services until the number of people in church increases. There may be other restrictions that come along with the opening back of churches.

Other churches that have small numbers of attendees will be able to open back up. They will be able to go back to business as usual. However, some things that they have done will be out. As it looks there is no definite time frame to when groups of 25 or more can start back up. That will mean that many churches that have bible schools during the Summer will have to cancel them this year.

Churches that have camps in the Summer will also have to cancel them as well. No church picnics, dinners at churches for fundraisers, and more things will have to be cut. There will be a new kind of normal happening for churches. Then there is the thought that will all the restrictions that maybe churches will not open up at all.

We will just have to wait and see how this all plays out when it happens.

Xylophone: Make Your Own Music

I remember when I worked in Kindergarten one year the music teacher. Mrs. Funkhouser was teaching the kids a different musical instrument each week. One of the instruments we looked at was Xylophone. The kids had fun with it. I have always thought of a Xylophone as a piano that you play with a mallet or mallets. Recently I discovered that you can be a professional Xylophone player. Check out these videos from J.S. Bach (Marimba), (Bourree and Gigue), and Invention no. 8.

When I worked in Preschool we had a Xylophone. The kids loved to make music with it. One of the kids told me that they wanted to become a Xylophone player. At the time I didn’t know that you could be a professional Xylophone player. Then recently I found out that you could. That made me realize that you can make your own music. That you can take any instrument and make music with it.

We can do whatever we set our minds to in this life. If you want to be a Xylophone player then you do it. Do whatever you want. You have set goals or dreams and you are going to reach them. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t.

Then I realized it also applies to life. You can live life your own way. Make your own rules. That way you are your person. Just be you.

No matter what you do remember to make your own music. You will be glad you did.

Wake Up: The Benefits of Sleep

Sleep is a good thing. Most of us do not get a good nights sleep. We toss and turn because we can’t shut our minds off. Then there are times that our partner’s sleep habits affect our own. We tend to wake up as tired as we went to bed. We need to break the cycle. Sleep really does our body good.

Keeps Heart Healthy: Heart attacks and strokes are more likely to occur during the early morning hours, which may be due to the way sleep interacts with the blood vessels. Lack of sleep has been associated with worsening of blood pressure and cholesterol, which are risk factors for heart disease and stroke. Your heart will be healthier if you get between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night.

Sleep May Prevent Cancer: Did you know that people who work the late shift have a higher risk of developing breast and colon cancer? Researchers believe light exposure reduces melatonin levels. Melatonin, a hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle, is thought to protect against cancer as it appears to suppress the growth of tumors. Be sure that your bedroom is dark and avoid using electronics before bed in order to help your body produce the melatonin it needs.

Sleep Reduces Stress: When your body is sleep deficient, it goes into a state of stress. The body’s functions are put on high alert, which causes high blood pressure and the production of stress hormones. High blood pressure increases your risk for heart attack and stroke, and the stress hormones make it harder to fall asleep. Learn relaxation techniques to counteract the effects of stress and fall asleep faster.

Sleep Reduces Inflammation: Increased stress hormones caused by lack of sleep raises the level of inflammation in your body.3 This creates a greater risk for heart-related conditions, as well as cancer and diabetes. Inflammation is thought to cause the body to deteriorate as we age.

Sleep Makes You More Alert: A good night’s sleep makes you feel energized and alert the next day. Being engaged and active not only feels great but increases your chances for another good night’s sleep. When you wake up feeling refreshed, use that energy to get out into the daylight, do active things, and be engaged with your world. You’ll sleep better the next night and increase your daily energy level.

Sleep Improves Your Memory: Researchers do not fully understand why we sleep and dream, but they have found that sleep plays an important role in a process called memory consolidation. During sleep, your body may be resting, but your brain is busy processing your day, making connections between events, sensory input, feelings, and memories. Deep sleep is a very important time for your brain to make memories and links, and getting more quality sleep will help you remember and process things better.

Sleep May Help Lose Weight: Researchers have found that people who sleep fewer hours per night are more likely to be overweight or obese. It is thought that a lack of sleep impacts the balance of hormones in the body that affect appetite. The hormones ghrelin and leptin, which regulate appetite, have been found to be disrupted by lack of sleep. If you want to maintain or lose weight, don’t forget that getting adequate sleep on a regular basis is a huge part of the equation.

Napping Makes You Smarter: Nighttime isn’t the only time to catch ZZZZs. Napping during the day is an effective, refreshing alternative to caffeine that is good for your overall health and can make you more productive. In one study, people who did not nap or took naps shorter than one hour, experienced mental decreases four to six times greater than those that napped at least an hour. People who nap at work show much lower levels of stress. Napping also improves memory, cognitive function, and mood.

Sleep May Reduce Risk Of Depression: Sleep impacts many of the chemicals in your body, including serotonin. People with serotonin deficiencies are more likely to suffer from depression. You can help to prevent depression by making sure you are getting the right amount of sleep: between 7 and 9 hours each night.

Sleep Helps The Body Repair Itself: Sleep is a time to relax, but it’s also a time during which the body is hard at work repairing damage caused by stress, ultraviolet rays, and other harmful exposure. Your cells produce more protein while you are sleeping. These protein molecules form the building blocks for cells, allowing them to repair the damage.

Sleep Boost Your Mood: Another thing that your brain does while you sleep is process your emotions. Your mind needs this time in order to recognize and react the right way. When you cut that short, you tend to have more negative emotional reactions and fewer positive ones. Chronic lack of sleep can also raise the chance of having a mood disorder. One large study showed that when you have insomnia, you’re five times more likely to develop depression, and your odds of anxiety or panic disorders are even greater.

Sleep Helps With Athletic Achievement: If your sport requires quick bursts of energy, like wrestling or weightlifting, sleep loss may not affect you as much as with endurance sports like running, swimming, and biking. But you’re not doing yourself any favors. Besides robbing you of energy and time for muscle repair, lack of sleep saps your motivation, which is what gets you to the finish line. You’ll face a harder mental and physical challenge — and see slower reaction times. Proper rest sets you up for your best performance.

Sleep Helps With Your Blood Sugar: During the deep, slow-wave part of your sleep cycle, the amount of glucose in your blood drops. Not enough time in this deepest stage means you don’t get that break to allow a reset — like leaving the volume turned up. Your body will have a harder time responding to your cells’ needs and blood sugar levels. Allow yourself to reach and remain in this deep sleep, and you’re less likely to get type 2 diabetes.

Sleep Helps You Live Longer: Too much or too little sleep is associated with a shorter lifespan—although it’s not clear if it’s a cause or effect. (Illnesses may affect sleep patterns too.) In a 2010 study of women ages 50 to 79, more deaths occurred in women who got less than five hours or more than six and a half hours of sleep per night.
Sleep also affects quality of life.

Sleep Helps Improve Grades: Children between the ages of 10 and 16 who have sleep disordered breathing, which includes snoring, sleep apnea, and other types of interrupted breathing during sleep, are more likely to have problems with attention and learning, according to a 2010 study in the journal Sleep. This could lead to “significant functional impairment at school,” the study authors wrote. In another study, college students who didn’t get enough sleep had worse grades than those who did.

So the next time your child does not want to take a nap or go to bed you can explain to them some of the benefits of sleep for them. You now also know why a good nights sleep will benefit you too. Make sure you get plenty of rest so you can be at your best.

Is It From The Bible?: Discerning If What TV Preachers (or any preacher) says if from the bible

I recently watched a video on Facebook on a Christian based page that was talking about Salvation. The video had two men in it that were taking a look at a video put out by a tv preacher. They were breaking down the video to see if it was biblically based or no. They found that this tv reacher’s idea of salvation was just not right and of the bible. Now mind you what this tv preacher was saying is something I was taught growing up and to hear that what I believed to be right was in turn wrong was shocking.

The video pointed out that the idea of praying a Sinner’s Prayer to be saved was not of the bible. It was something that was man-made in order to get people to come to know Jesus. They went on to state that what was true was that once you were baptized you were accepting Jesus into your life. That got me to thinking for a minute. Jesus never prayed a Sinner’s Prayer. However, he was baptized and by doing so was filled with the Holy Spirit.

So if these two men were right about this subject then it comes to reason that when we are baptized we are filled with the Holy Spirit and become a part of God’s family. This whole notion that we are to pray a prayer to be saved is a bunch of hogwash. That got me to thinking. Maybe there are other things that we are told to believe as Christians that are indeed false because they don’t come from the bible.

That got me to thinking about something my Dad said. He believed that you did not have to go to a physical church building to worship God. I did some digging to find out that Dad was right. Nowhere in the bible are church buildings mentioned. John Pavlovitz makes this point clear when he wrote: Remember, the Bible Never Mentions a Building Called ‘Church’; The Church was never meant to be a place.

Then that brought me to another thought. What if a lot of what preachers (tv or church) were telling false information that was not of the bible? Then I got to thinking. If we were to take notes on what the preacher said on Sunday and then go back an research it to see if it was fact then maybe we would see more clearly what is truth.

So often we are told that what the preacher tells us from the pulpit is fact. This just not is so. I am not trying to put down any pastors. I know several pastors that do in fact give biblical-based information out. However, some want to take the bible and twist it to mean what they want it to mean. False teachers if you will.

The bible clearly tells us that we need to beware of false teachers. We need to study the word and know what is right. If you really take the time to read the bible cover to cover you will see that often what we are taught to believe as Christians just is not the truth. It is what someone has made up to make being a Christian look flashy. The glitter on the faith if you will.

We need to pray, seek God, and study his word so that we know what is truth. If now we could be going down the wrong path. For example: When I was a kid I remember my Grandma Rittenour watching a preacher on tv that made shinney claims that if she would send him her money that she would be healed. We had to talk my Grandma out of sending her money to this preacher because he was giving her false hope. I remember my Aunt Virginia telling Grandma that only God could heal and that we just needed to pray to him.

The same thing happened to a friend of mine. She watched a certain tv preacher every day, multiple times a day. She believed this preacher’s claims that he could heal her if she sent in her love seed (money). I had to talk her out of sending any money to him. I told her that she just needed to pray to God and ask God to heal her. That this preacher was just going to take her money. I remember telling my friend that we did not need a middle man to get the healing we need. That if we had faith and prayed to God he would heal us.

We just need to pray and ask God to help us figure out what is truth when a preacher preaches. That way we will know who is preaching God’s word in truth and who is not. Stay true to God and he will help you see what is right and what is wrong.

Uncle, I Shake My Head

0_3_baby_01_420x313

So I am the one in the family who is often asked to deal with my Uncle Woodie. I often differ to my sister because of how my Uncle is with me. Let me explain. He treats me like a little kid and often gets mad at me for no reason. I never please him and that happens most when he is in pain. He often gets on my nerves and I am learning to walk off from him in those moments. I go above and beyond for him, but he is ungrateful. So it should come as no surprise to those that know us that I would shake my head at him. So recently I had one of these moments.

With all that is going on in the world today, I have had to call him several times and explain things to him about changes that are taking place. One day I had to call and tell him that our Sunday routine was changed. A call that should have taken no more than 10 minutes turned into 30. He argued with me that I was wrong. I had to read the email from our pastor word for word to him so he got it. Then I had to read the Facebook post about the restaurant in order to get him to figure it out. I got off the phone shaking my head. My sister thought I lost it. I had to tell her. She gets it.

Another time was when he argued with me that when we went to town that his favorite restaurant (only one he eats at) would be open. I had to tell him no. We drove past the place and he said oh, I guess you are right. I shook my head.

Uncle Woodie is the only relative that I have that makes me shake my head so much. I am learning that shaking my head is better than arguing or yelling at him. If I just keep quiet things are better. If I give in to him things are worse. I am the only one that he is like this with.

People tell me all the time that I need to do this or that for him. I tell them have at it. They are better than me. If I did whatever it is I will get my head bit off. People don’t understand how he is with me.

I am glad that Uncle Woodie is in my life, but there are times I just wish he was different.
