It seemed like forever that they were with the doctor. Dr. Hardy wanted to do a few tests to make sure that everything was ok with Herrmann. Then he saw them in his office.

Let me start by saying that you seem like a relatively healthy man. However, I think you are under a lot of stress. You need to take it easy which I know is hard given your job. I am going to put you on some Metoprolol, Furosemide, Spironolactone, Plavix, and a low dose baby aspirin. You will have to take all of these twice a day. This is to help prevent another heart attack and a possible stroke. I want to see you back here in 2 months. I want to suggest you start exercising like running or walking, yoga, or tai chi to help manage stress. I also suggest you change to heart healthy diet. All in all you are good to go back to work next shift. I will have Addy will have your prescriptions ready for you to take with you when you head out.

Herrmann shook the Dr’s hand and thanked him. Then he and Cindy went to a find Addy. She gave them the scripts to take to be filled. Then they went to find Severide and Kidd. They went to the waiting room and found them. Then they headed off. Cindy wanted to drop Herrmann’s prescriptions off while they went to lunch. Kidd had suggested they eat at Salad House. That sounded good to everyone. They dropped the prescriptions off and headed to lunch.

At the restaurant, Severide ordered the Black and Blue Steak Salad, Kidd ordered the Wildberry Salad, Cindy ordered the Peach Caprese Salad, and Herrmann ordered the Buffalo Chicken Salad. They waited for their food and talked. I got a good report from Dr. Hardy. He said I can go back to work as long as I take my medication. He also wants me to change my diet and exercise. The stepmom said she would ride with them to Med and that the dad would drive.

Back at 51, Engine 51 had been out to assist with a house fire. Truck 81 was sent to a car accident. Then Squad 3 had been sent to assist with a Hazmat call to help gain entry into a building. They were all getting back at the same time. Cruz went to get sandwiches together. Everyone ate. Then they went to do drills and clean the rigs.

Soon the tones went off for a call to an apartment building. They rolled up and Boden assessed the situation. Then he gave orders to the crews of what to do. Squad 3 and Truck 81 went in to get residents out. A mom named Beth arrived. She was looking for her daughter Annie who was home alone. Boden radioed Severide and asked him to go look for the girl. Severide went to the apartment and found the girl. Before they could get out of the apartment they were trapped.

Severide was going to have to do a self-rescue. He opened the window and sent a rope down the building. He tied it to the radiator in the room. Then he attached himself to the rope. Soon dinner was ready and everyone was enjoying it. Then they went to relax and get ready for bed. Severide and Kidd went to get showers and head off to bed. Kidd put Severide to bed and kissed him on his head. They needed sleep. Tomorrow was a busy day. Severide and Kidd promised to take Cindy and Herrmann to the doctor. They hoped to get good news. Kidd was put in charge of Julia during the wedding. She was told she had to sit next to the Dardon boys since they were not going to be the best men. Soon it was time for the wedding to begin. Everyone took their places. Soon Boden was marrying the happy couple. Before everyone knew it the wedding was over. Everyone gathered up and went to Molly’s for the reception. Ben and Giffin were put on Julia duty during the reception.

Everyone had a great time at the reception. Before they knew it, the night was over. The 51-crew gathered outside to send Brett and Casey off. Then they helped Herrmann clean up Molly’s before everyone went home. Severide and Kidd dropped Cindy and Herrmann off at home. Then they headed home.

When they got home, they went upstairs to bed. It had been a long day. They were tired and knew that they had tomorrow to enjoy each other. They got undressed and in to bed. They took each other in their arms and held each other as they slept. This was a perfect ending to a beautiful day.
